Executive Director

Position Description

Reporting to and working with the MDAC Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for leading the coalition by engaging and inspiring its members and staff to achieve its mission, vision, goals, and objectives. The ED oversees, builds and guides the coalition as it interacts with constituents, collaborators, funders, and other critical partners within Maryland and throughout the nation. The ED also represents the organization as its primary spokesperson, and continuously works to build the coalition’s membership, image, reputation and relationships throughout the state.

Education and Background Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. An advanced degree in nonprofit management, health administration or public health is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of management experience in the nonprofit or public health setting. Experience in health care, social services or in policy and advocacy is a plus.
Necessary Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated success in grant/proposal writing, management, and reporting.
  • Experience or demonstrated success in fundraising.
  • Demonstrated success in budget development and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, maintain and grow networks of diverse partners
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends and travel within and out of state, as needed.
  • Reliable transportation with all necessary insurance protection.
  • A strong drive to succeed and a well-developed sense of humor.
